The Dr. Aby L. Parsons’ Advocacy in Action Award is named after the inaugural director of the LGBTQIA Resource Center. Dr. Parsons brought expertise, creativity, high energy, passion, and dedication to the position and her work.

This award honors an individual (student, faculty, staff, alum) that has demonstrated innovation, leadership, collaboration, and/or educational development in respects to support services for LGBTQIA communities at Georgia Tech throughout the past year. 
The award recognizes any student, faculty, staff, or alumni who has accomplished one or more of the following on campus or in the community at large:

  • Contributed to research, policy, or practice to improve LGTBQIA experiences 
  • Demonstrated a commitment to centering community voices in leadership, in the classroom, or communal areas of Georgia Tech 
  • Created opportunities for accountability, education, or community building within their working or learning environments.

The nomination form should include specific, demonstrable examples of how the nominee has met one or more of the above criteria.

This award is open to all nominees, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
