The Award for LGBTQIA Faculty/Staff Leadership honors an individual faculty or staff member who has made significant contributions to LGBTQIA communities at Georgia Tech throughout the past year. These contributions will have made Georgia Tech a safer and more inclusive, welcoming, and respectful community for LGBTQIA students, faculty, and/or staff.
The award recognizes any current faculty or staff member who has made significant contributions and improvements at Georgia Tech in one or more of the following ways:
Advocating for changes to policies or procedures that exclude or marginalize LGBTQIA communities
- Advocating for the inclusion of LGBTQIA perspectives, issues, groups, or individuals in spaces, programs, curricula, and decision-making
- Demonstrating leadership in an organization, committee, initiative or program that serves LGBTQIA communities
- Through active involvement in LGBTQIA communities, organizations, and issues, including those pertaining to the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, ability, nationality, age, religion, class, or culture
- Initiating and/or implementing educational programs or initiatives about LGBTQIA inclusion, issues, or communities
- Conducting outreach to other constituencies on campus and in the community with the goal of forming collaborative relationships that benefit LGBTQIA communities
- Creating spaces where LGBTQIA people feel welcome, valued, and respected
- Serving as a leader, role model, advisor or mentor to LGBTQIA colleagues and students
- Teaching, publishing, and/or presenting on topics that advance knowledge and understanding of LGBTQIA issues and communities
The nomination form should include specific, demonstrable examples of how the nominee has met one or more of the above criteria. While off-campus advocacy and activism may strengthen an application, this award is intended to recognize on-campus contributions first and foremost.
This award is open to any current faculty or staff individual who identifies as a member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, or asexual communities.
