Georgia Institute of Technology

Georgia Tech is a top-ranked public research university situated in the heart of Atlanta, a diverse and vibrant city with numerous economic and cultural strengths. The Institute serves more than 45,000 students through top-ranked undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs in engineering, computing, science, business, design, and liberal arts. 

LGBTQIA Resource Center

The LGBTQIA Resource Center supports the Institute's commitment to inclusive excellence by engaging the campus community in education, advocacy, and outreach for people of all genders and sexual identities.  

The LGBTQIA Resource Center facilitated programs and events that served 967 students in the 2023-2024 fiscal year with top representation from graduate and undergraduate programs in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biology, and Business Administration.

Our student community is inclusive of undergraduate and graduate students of all majors. Among the 57 graduates recognized at Lavender Celebration this year, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, and Aerospace Engineering were the most common majors. Graduates were planning to continue their education or joined organizations like Goodwill, BASF, Abbott, PwC, and Ecolab.   

The LGBTQIA Center seeks corporate partners to engage with students, staff, and faculty throughout the academic year.  The

  • Company opportunities posted to social media account (~1735 followers) twice a semester.  

  • Invitation to participate in an Out@Work event with students at Georgia Tech. Invitation may include panel participation, mock interviews, resume reviews, etc.  

  • Company information session with ~25 students scheduled at a time mutually agreed upon by the Center and corporate sponsor.

Drag Bingo

With 200+ attendees, this annual event hosted in collaboration with the Residence Hall Association during Georgia Tech’s Week of Welcome is the perfect opportunity to connect with new and returning students.

Family Reunion

With 100 attendees, this annual event provides new and returning LGBTQIA students with an opportunity to connect and learn more about specific campus resources designed to meet the needs of LGBTQIA students.

Pride Prom

With 270 + attendees, this event with Georgia State University has quickly become the largest social gathering for the LGBTQIA Resource Center.

Drag Show

With approximately 200 attendees, this spring term event provides an opportunity for students to perform drag and watch Atlanta-area professional performers. 

Lavender Celebration

Every year, all members of the Georgia Tech community are invited to honor graduates and community members recognized for their significant contributions to LGBTQIA community at Tech during our annual Lavender Celebration. In 2024, 56 LGBTQIA graduates, 5 award recipients, and the 10-year anniversary of the LGBTQIA Resource Center were celebrated with 115 community members.

Pride Peers

A peer mentoring program designed for current students to assist incoming students with the transition to Georgia Tech by providing a consistent student mentoring relationship during their first year on campus. Pride Peers mentoring program seeks to connect incoming lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and/or asexual (LGBTQIA) undergraduate and graduate students with peers for community, support, and resources. In 2023-2024 academic year, the center facilitated more than 20 mentor-mentee pairings.

Q Chats

Our student discussion group series. We provide spaces for undergraduate and graduate students who share similar identities to come together in a welcoming space and build community, share experiences, and support each other.   

Book Clubs

Facilitated three times a year (fall, spring, summer), this program unites students, faculty, and staff in dialogue centering a shared reading that specifically connects to LGBTQIA themes.  

Wellness Event

Facilitated twice a semester, these educational workshops target the unique health, and well-being needs of LGBTQIA individuals. These programs align with Georgia Tech’s 8 Dimensions of Wellness model which include emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual forms of wellbeing.  

Community Building Event

Facilitated monthly, these events target connection and community building for LGBTQIA students. A range of activities are planned such as bowling, crafting, off-campus, and on-campus activities for engagement.  

Trans Visibility Week

Hosted in November each year, this week (and associated programs) supports the trans community and fosters inclusion and belonging at Tech. Goals of this week is to amplify trans voices and raise awareness about the challenges trans people face, all while enhancing allyship practices.
