What is Lavender Graduation?
Every year in April, all members of the Georgia Tech community are invited to honor our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and ally graduates at our annual Lavender Graduation celebration. Families of our graduating students are also welcome to attend.
The evening begins with a reception featuring light hors d'oeuvres and then our graduating LGBTQIA are honored in a special and memorable ceremony.
Who can be recognized at Lavender Graduation?
The ceremony recognizes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and ally students who are graduating. This includes both undergraduate and graduate students. All graduating students who want to be recognized must register. Register here.
Can I just go to this instead of the big Georgia Tech Commencement Ceremony?
Lavender Graduation is not a replacement for the campus-wide commencement ceremony in May but rather an additional opportunity for you to celebrate and reflect on your time at Georgia Tech with other members of the LGBTQIA community.
Can I invite my family, professors, and/or friends?
Yes! Just make sure they RSVP.
I identify as lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer/intersex/asexual but haven't been really involved in queer activities or groups during my time at Tech. Can I still be recognized at Lavender Graduation?
Absolutely! Involvement in LGBTQIA organizations is not a prerequisite for being honored at the ceremony. As we introduce our graduating students, we'll recognize many of their different achievements from their time at Tech.
Why should I participate as a graduate?
Lavender Graduation rewards you for your accomplishments while being a student at Tech and serves as a formal farewell to the community. It also gives you the opportunity to connect with our LGBTQIA alumni and to learn how you can stay involved with LGBTQIA life at Tech after graduation. This will be a fun and memorable celebration with your queer peers that you'll always remember. Click the button below to register as a Lavender Graduate so you can be recognized at the ceremony
I want to attend Lavender Graduation to support our graduates. Do I need to RSVP?
Yes! Please RSVP so that we know how many chairs to put out and how much food to order.
